England 4-0 Andorra LIVE! Saka scores - World Cup qualifier result, match stream and latest updates today | Evening Standard

England made a triumphant return to Wembley, 56 days after the heartbreak of their Euro 2020 final defeat by Italy on penalties.

Gareth Southgate’s side - which showed 11 changes from the 4-0 win in Hungary on Thursday - received a brilliant reception in Sunday evening’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against Group I minnows ranked at 156 in the world.

Jesse Lingard struck early for England against Andorra, but the totally dominant Three Lions had to wait until 18 minutes from time before extending their lead any further, after Harry Kane, Jack Grealish and Mason Mount had been sent on from the bench.

Kane netted his 40th goal for his country from the penalty spot after Mount was bundled over in the box, with the floodgates opening late on.

Lingard toe-poked home his second of the night before Bukayo Saka - who missed England’s decisive penalty against Italy in July - got the biggest cheer of the game when he headed in Lingard’s cross for number four.

England have now won all of their first five qualifiers on the road to Qatar and travel to face Poland in Warsaw on Wednesday night.

In the end England put some gloss on what was a largely dour occasion.

That late flurry of goals was much-needed - and there was no more popular a scorer than Saka at the end.

There can be no complaints. This was always going to be a virtual training ground exercise, with Andorra trying to avoid a humiliation.

It was up to England to come up with the answers and it needed the introduction of Kane, Mount and Grealish to do that, so credit to Southgate for recognising as much.

Qualification for Qatar gets ever closer.

England 4-0 Andorra

89 mins: Lingard is just denied a hat-trick late on as Kane’s curling effort is just tipped wide by Josep Gomes. Good save.

Mings’ header from the subsquent corner goes over.

Mings was booked a few minutes ago by the way, which means he will not be available for the trip to Poland on Wednesday night.

GOAL! England 4-0 Andorra | Bukayo Saka 85’

83 mins: It’s four as tired Andorra are caught out by a short corner.

Alexander-Arnold plays it to Lingard, who drills in a cross that is steered in off the head of Saka.

Great to see him get among the goals in his first game back at Wembley since the Euros final.

80 mins: Kane has never been more grateful to see an offside flag in his life as Grealish picks out the Tottenham talisman at the back post, but he gets his left-footed volley completely wrong and it smashes back off the woodwork.

It would not have counted, but still... how on earth did he miss?!

GOAL! England 3-0 Andorra | Jesse Lingard 78'

78 mins: Another for Lingard!

After Grealish opens up the space, Lingard is picked out by Saka and flicks the ball to the side of Jesus Rubio before an unconventional strike that bounces in front of Josep Gomes and into the bottom corner.

You’d fancy England for a couple more during the closing stages...

That was Kane’s 40th England goal.

He is now only 13 away from matching all-time leading scorer Wayne Rooney.

GOAL! England 2-0 Andorra | Harry Kane 72’

72 mins: Emphatic from Kane, who fires into the bottom corner.

He scores for the 14th successive qualification game and moves level with Michael Owen for fifth place on the all-time England scorers list.

Josep Gomes guessed the right way, but was never keeping that out.

Will the floodgates now open in the last 18 minutes or so?

Penalty to England

70 mins: Great interplay between Grealish and Mount, who is shoved in the back by Christian Garcia, who was caught helplessly on the wrong side of the Chelsea playmaker.

There will be a VAR check, but that won’t be overturned.

Kane steps up...

England needed to change things. Their quality has not been good enough.

Andorra are there for the taking, but haven’t been stretched anywhere near often enough.
